Italy has long been associated with having some of the most breathtaking scenery and wedding venues; today, we’ll introduce you to Villa Balbiano.
Villa Balbiano, located on the picturesque western shore of Lake Como, is the gem everyone is looking for in the best Italian wedding venue. A truly remarkable and majestic wedding setting for your special day. The villa has an exceptional heritage beginning with the famous Cardinal Tolomeo Gallio, who created it and lived there at the end of the 16th century, 100 year later, Cardinal Angelo Maria Durini used this hidden gem to host daily festivals, banquets, and dances, etc.
Today, Villa Balbiano is the most recognizable private residence in Lake Como and further. Located by the lake with 2HA property, with a widespread luxurious garden that was designed by the British Society of Garden Designers.
The Villa itself possesses an outdoor swimming pool and a private boathouse with a pier. The interior is designed with first-class historical furniture and spectacular 17th-century frescoes created by the Recchi brothers and Agostino Silva that are still spotless on the walls of the Lake Como wedding Venue.
Weddings in Lake Como, the 3rd largest Italian lake recognizable worldwide for its breathtaking landscapes and picturesque locations, will be perfect for your dream wedding that emits luxury, magic, and class.
When asked for Lake Como's best locations for weddings, one of our first choices is always Villa Balbiano. The extraordinary beauty not only of the Villa itself but the whole surroundings, the nature, lake view, and perfect Italian garden.
Whenever you hear the word masterpiece connected with the 16th Century, the first thing that comes to mind is the Renaissance and its perfect art creations. Well, fortunately, this Villa has it all. Heavenly statues and fountains squirreled away in the perfectly shaped garden and bring life to the ambiance.
The Villa Balbiano offers exclusive accommodation; the newlyweds can enjoy the Master Suite, which has a king-size bed, sitting area, living room with gorgeous furniture, a walk-in dressing room, a bathroom with bathtub, and a shower, a private terrace with lake views for morning coffee with your loved one.
The Villa has a total of 14 bedrooms which can accommodate up to 28 guests. Each of these rooms offers an unforgettable, out-of-this-world experience. The chic furniture, the 16th-century frescoes, sculptures and statues, and the lake and mountain views make your stay a complete adventure.

Imagine this, you, your lovely partner, caring family, and dearest friends, all together, at a wedding in Lake Como, on YOUR big day. Let's start from the entrance. You will get an elite, one-in-a-lifetime arrival at the villa by boat. A pretty incredible way to impress your guests. As you step off onto the peninsula, you will feel the breeze that leads you to the terraces that hold a miraculous viewpoint over the lake.
You have a couple of options for your reception. It can be the upper Loggia Segre that can accommodate up to 60 seated guests. Its own private terrace can later be used for dancing, cocktails, or maybe even an after-party. Your second option can be the lower garden terrace. Its capacity is a maximum of 150 people seated.
An interesting and unique thing about Villa Balbiano is that it is one of the very few Lake Como Villas and Venues that are “neighbours free,” and that can mean only one thing: partying all night with no guilt.
In addition to the lake view, boat, and garden photographs, we will give you some insider tips for a perfect photo. Probably the most famous and celebrated spot of the villa will be the three-arched loggias. A truly special place, the spot that gazes north to Bellagio and the mountains in the distance. Across from the mountains is the single island of Como. This spot can be used for a special ceremony like reading your vows or even an intimate dinner.
Other ideas for photographs can be with the luxury furniture that is all over the Villa. Ancient and historic furnishings, stunning frescoes, and amazing architecture throughout the villa create beautiful photo backdrops. A professional photographer will instruct you on making the perfect pose that will bring out the best version of you.
And, of course, you can never get too many wedding photos with the awe-inspiring and picturesque view of Lake Como. It will emit a vibe from the Renaissance period itself. And lastly, pianos always create a beautiful wedding portrait. The whole ambiance at the villa just complements love and is an unbelievable addition to your love story.
Each couple has unique reasons for choosing a specific location as their wedding venue. And when speaking of the Villa Balbiano, there are a million reasons to think of, but here are just a few reasons why we think it’s a wonderful location to say “I Do” in Italy.
A true masterpiece. Being able to see all of the art that is on the property, art that just speaks for itself, representing the wealthy history and its hard but beautiful tale. Every bit and corner of the whole property just screams luxury, royalty, chic, class, style, elite, and art! The terrace, the two loggias, the peninsula, the Villa itself, the views, the decorations, the nature, the garden...we can just keep on going. The Villa needs to be experienced and not described.
By choosing Villa Balbiano, you will definitely feel like royalty. Starting with the boat arrival, the villa’s service, and perfect and different reception spots, the Villa Balbiano is definitely one of the best Como wedding locations.
It’s hard to beat the breathtaking views, vibrant green nature, deep blue sky and water, chic furniture, luxurious halls, and interior decor with ancient frescoes that inspire us to dream and wonder, providing truly the best Italian wedding experience.
If you’re searching for an Italian wedding venue that will create a one-of-a-kind and unforgettable experience, the Villa Balbiano is it!
Wedding guests enjoy a unique chance to fully experience Lake Como's architecture, art, light, and drama at the majestic Villa Balbiano. The entire experience is characterized by flamboyant styling and opulent detail, and two hectares of well-maintained grounds provide innumerable lovely vantage points from which to take in the striking vistas.
The property may provide a window into the life of the villa's controversial former owner, Cardinal Durini, who lived there and extended it in the late 18th century. His passion for the arts as a papal nuncio is still clearly visible in the property's Italianate gardens with their dramatic fountains and thoughtful sculptures, beautiful ceiling frescoes, and a world-class library, which all interestingly contrast with the simple lines of the villa's Renaissance façade.
It’s important to remember that your wedding story is about the love that you share for each other and joining together as one. And while the Villa Balbiano is a majestic and unforgettable venue, the true experience for everyone in attendance is based on your love.

TRATTORIA SULL'ALBERO RESTAURANT is unique because it is designed around a large Oak tree. The rustic interior overlooking the fields and forest is perfect for an intimate wedding reception with your closest loved ones.
That's not all this place has to offer. Let's talk about the 300-acre farm estate that is built and maintained by traditional farmers. You'll see chicken, sheep, horses, and even alpacas at the beautiful Relais Farm.
And we can’t forget the beautiful culinary gardens.
In Borgo Santo Pietro, most of the ingredients are harvested. So not only are your viewing authentic and natural beauty, but you'll also be tasting natural and organic food. Over 200 types of vegetables and 50 aromatic herbs are cultivated in their fields.
The food you'll have at this place will come from this field. There is also a fruits and nut garden with walnut trees and sweet and fresh fruits like peaches and cherries.
The overall classic and country aesthetic make this place the dream destination for your wedding. A Relais wedding is unique, and the Tuscan venue of Borgo Santo Pietro is elegant and rustic. You can have your wedding in the garden close to a fountain or maybe go a little more intimate and have the event on the island in the middle of the lake.
But, those two are not the only options for your wedding. This place is full of aesthetic venues where you can host weddings according to your taste and guests. With over five gardens, the options are many.
The founders of this relais have put their heart and soul into designing this beautiful place. Each room, restaurant, and garden are filled with details that show the true beauty and heritage of Tuscany. Their goal was to create an authentic country experience filled with luxury and art. This is very beautifully displayed through their architecture, food, and culture.
In each suite, there is detail in the form of art. The furniture is exquisite, the walls have a painting that screams love and beauty, and the windows overlook the beautiful gardens and landscapes. These are all the details you will only get to experience at a Borgo Santo Pietro Tuscany at Borgo Santo Pietro.
The history of Borgo Santo Pietro dates back 250 years ago. When discovered by the founders, this place was just an 800-year villa surrounded by muddy fields. It wasn't even close to the beautiful structure it is today. Nevertheless, Jeanette and Claus Thottrup, the founders, took eight years to transform it into a luxury boutique hotel in the heart of Tuscany.
Now the hotel is serving the guests organic food and an authentic experience. Its restaurant, the "Saporium", is a Michelin-starred restaurant that serves world-class food made from local farmed vegetables and fruits.
There is something unique and majestic about Italian weddings. It is either their impeccable style or the feeling they give. Tuscany is filled with romance and authenticity. This dream of every couple is to have it at their wedding.

There is something about the Tuscan sun. The warm rays kiss your cheeks softly, wrap you in warmth and leave you with a halo of light.
The wedding of Mari and Tõnu's was no exception to this. They were married under the summer sun in June.
Photographer: @atomingphoto
Mari and Tõnu had their Tuscan villa wedding in the beautiful Villa Boscarello surrounded by their nearest and dearest. There could not have been a more perfect setting for this lovely couple; the Villa sits in the rolling Tuscan hills skirted with rows of lavender bushes.
This beautiful Villa boasts a rustic charm with exposed brick walls that coexist in harmony with its setting. The elegant outdoor spaces look out over the manicured grounds and cypress trees onto the traditional Tuscan landscape.
Villa Boscarello is the ideal location as it is multi-faceted. It has dynamic spaces that can cater for any occasion. The large pool is ideal for relaxing with a glass of wine or taking a dip to cool off.
The front courtyard lent itself perfectly for the reception dinner. The Villa wrapped around the party and scattered beautiful lights over the table.

With the couple and their guests arriving in Florence and making their way to the Villa, you could feel the excitement in the air. The rehearsal dinner was a perfect welcome to their Tuscan wedding celebrations.
The warm Tuscan air was tangled with the aromas of fresh pizza. A professional pizzaiolo prepared the oven with dry wood and baked traditional pizza in front of the guests.
Mari and Tõnu sat with their family and friends around the beautifully mise en place, showcasing the fresh produce of Tuscany.
The feast of mixed Tuscan antipasti, fresh pizzas, chocolate sofflé and gelato paired perfectly with Toscana vino set the tone for the celebrations to come.
Photographer: @atomingphoto
Mari and Tõnu's big day started easy; typically, the atmosphere is filled with nerves and excitement. The best thing to do is to spend the morning being pampered and eating good food.
Mari spent the morning with her girlfriends having their hair and makeup done, imagining her new chapter and the amazing adventures their family will have.
Behind the scenes, everything came together beautifully. The VB- team and the vendors worked like clockwork to get everything magically set up ready for the ceremony to start.
Photographer: @atomingphoto
The ceremony was outdoors and the weather could not have been more perfect, with warm blue skies.
The fabulous Puscina flowers transformed the end of the aisle with a bespoke arch unique to the couple's colours and flowers.
The procession opened with the voices of the lovely guests singing 'Et Sa Teaks' as the bridal party made their way down the aisle. The surrounding scenery of lavender rows and rolling hills sang in harmony with this intimate Tuscan villa wedding.
There was a moment of breathlessness when Mari appeared, escorted by her farther down the aisle to meet Tõnu, absolutely beautiful.
Once the "I do's" were shared, the petals were tossed, and the lovely voices accompanied them down the aisle as man and wife.
The atmosphere was filled with joy and excitement and cocktails were shared by the poolside. The couple spent a brief period with their guests before taking a step aside for some pictures.
It's an important moment to capture; it is often one of the most cherished times as this will be the moment of realisation that you are now a married couple.
It is a time to reflect on the vowels and promises you have exchanged.
There is also no need to worry about your guests as they will be enjoying the buffet and cocktails.
Photographer: @atomingphoto
Before the guests noticed, the couple returned and the party was moved to the dining area. The tables are set up beautifully in the Villa's front courtyard with the array of lights strung gracefully over the seating.
It would not be a Tuscan wedding if there was not a constant serving of fabulous food. Between the courses, heartfelt speeches were shared, filled with good wishes and love for the couple.
Mari and Tõnu's first dance was to "Sel ööl on tunne", made all the more special as it was sung by their friend. Including your guests in your celebrations makes it more memorable and special as it is unique to you and your guests.
This is a moment that can not be captured on any Pinterest board.
It is a tradition in Italy to have a wedding cake prepared in front of you, made up of layers with fruit and cream, then to cut it together.
So, it only seemed fitting that Mari and Tõnu did it for their Tuscan wedding. This added an authentic element to their Italian wedding and is something that will be remembered by their guests.
It was important for the couple to say a few words to their guest, a heartfelt moment of thanks as they released balloons into the night sky.
As the balloons drifted away, the music got louder and the heels came off. Mari, Tõnu and their guests danced the night away, the perfect way to celebrate their Tuscan villa wedding and the best way to start their next chapter as man and wife.
Photographer: @atomingphoto
When planning a Tuscan villa wedding like Mari and Tõnu's it is important to think of the little details as this will in turn make the biggest difference and add an element of charm to your day.
Think about your guests and how you can make them comfortable. In this case, the ceremony was held in the Tuscan summer sun, Mari and Tõnu catered for this.
They provided each guest with an elegant, wicker fan to keep cool so they did not feel like they needed to escape the ceremony if they overheated. Prior to the wedding, each guest was offered a pre-ceremony cocktail before being seated.
Photographer: @atomingphoto
The mise en place for both the rehearsal dinner and the wedding night gave a nod to its location and tied in perfectly with the couple's style.
The Colour palette ran seamlessly through all elements of the wedding day although there were many different facets to the wedding. This was done through the beautiful design of flower arrangements, stationery, mise en place to what the bridal party were wearing.
Photographer: @atomingphoto
When planning your Tuscan villa wedding it is important to stay true to yourself and incorporate elements that are special to you.
It was so heartwarming to see Mari and Tõnu's daughters dress next to Mari's and have her up at the end of the aisle with them. To have a friend of theirs sign for them during the ceremony and for their first dance, a special moment that will last forever.
It was an honour to have been a part of their wedding and make their dreams come true. Let VB- Events plan your uniquely special day and help write the next chapter, contact us for a free consultation.

Did you know that Italian villas were the original farm-to-table household? When you tour the gardens of 14th and 15th century villas, keep in mind that those gardens are not just for show.
They were lovingly planted to provide the master and misses of the estate with fresh fruit, grapes for wine, and any other home-grown delicacy that they could have wanted.
If you and your beloved are committed to buying from local farms, eating fresh fruit, and being close to nature, you will love the beautiful, historic villas in Italy.
Do you want a wedding that is both luxurious and down to earth? Do you want to honor your love of Mother Earth while feeling like a prince or princess for a day? Consider having an Italian villa wedding! Destination weddings are the biggest trend for 2021 and 2022, so why not say “I do” in a 15th century villa in the Italian countryside.
Your wedding day should be everything you want. It should be the most beautiful day. You should be the happiest you’ve ever been. Couples who choose an Italian villa wedding are
often looking for adventure - that comfortable kind of adventure, with warm nights, great food, and history everywhere you look.
Whether you and your beloved are history lovers, big fans of the Medici TV show, or enjoyers of luxury, Italy is home to many villas that would be perfect for your big day. The best wedding venue villas were built between the 15th and 17th centuries, making them ideal spots for experiencing history.
Because each villa is well preserved, spotlessly clean, and perfectly cared for, you can experience a day in the life of a member of the elite Medici family.
The number one reason that couples come to Italy for their wedding is because villas offer the best wedding experience. Since 15th century villas were built to house the entire extended family as well as the staff, such villas have more than enough room for the entire wedding party and the guests.
One challenge of destination weddings is whether the couple or the guests should be responsible for the cost of accommodations. One way around this issue is for the couple to rent out an Italian villa, and allow guests to stay in the extra rooms. If you choose to go this route, having everyone in the same place can give guests a chance to meet and mingle.
Villas also provide a variety of locations for where to walk down the aisle. You and your beloved could hold the ceremony outdoors in the gardens, in the villa’s ballroom or another large room, or on the front steps of the villa. This makes it easy to customize the wedding to perfectly fit you and your beloved’s love story.
Whether you want to get married in a city center or out in the countryside, Italy is home to so many historic villas that you can have your pick. Want to get married overlooking Lake Como? VB Events recommends Villa Pizzo (where Chrissy Teigen and John Legend tied the knot), Villa Del Balbianello (which appears in Star Wars: Attack of the Clones), Villa Balbiano or Villa Sola Cabiati - where the gardens provide complete privacy and the walls are covered with frescoes worthy of Milanese aristocrats.
With so many beautiful villas in Italy, it is impossible to go wrong when you pick a venue for your special day. VB Events has worked with couples from all over the world, and a few of the most sought after locations include Villa Astor on the Amalfi Coast, Villa Igiea in Sicily, Villa Clara in Rome, and Villa del Balbianello near Lake Como.
With so many potential venues to choose from, it helps to work with expert wedding planners. This is where VB Events comes in. We have been helping wedding days run smoothly for 15 years. As local experts, we also know the ins and outs of all the best wedding venues in Italy, from villas to vineyards. Contact VB Events if you need a hand making your Italian villa wedding dreams come true.
Here are the top 4 villas to consider for your wedding:
Lake Como is home to several villas that would all be perfect for your special day, including Villa Balbiano and Villa Erba.
Villa del Balbianello was built in 1787 by Cardinal Angelo Maria Durini. Parts of the villa were originally a Franciscan monastery, which were converted into a villa for the cardinal’s personal use. This villa has historically been a hub for political activity, including as a meeting place for Italian patriots and the Carbonari. Its walls have also been home to famous writers, artists, and architects.
Villa del Balbianello is the perfect wedding venue because it sits atop a peninsula, so you can say “I do” with the glimmering expanse of Lake Como stretching out behind you. While guests cannot stay overnight at this villa, there are many villas and hotels located nearby.
If photos of this venue look familiar, it is probably because the villa appears in Casino Royale, as the backdrop to James Bond’s epic adventures, shoot outs, and romantic entanglements. In late 2018, superstars of the silver screen Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh also chose Villa del Balbianello as their wedding venue.
Nothing says romance quite like the eternal city of Rome. If you want to tie the knot in the middle of an exciting city center, then Villa Clara is perfect for you and your beloved.
Villa Clara stands out both for its luxury and because it was reimagined in Art Deco style. Considered a hidden gem in Rome, Villa Clara was built in the 1910s, just before the start of the first world war. It was not finished until 1929 when famous architect Arnoldo Foschini took over the project and leaned heavily into his Greco-Roman influences.
Villa Clara radiates luxury, from the classic villa garden on the property to the over 1,000 square meters of marble and other semiprecious stone surfaces. When you hold your Italian villa wedding in this beautiful place, you will notice the wall panels made from rare amethyst, as well as the vast art collection.
Whether you love Greek and Roman pieces, Chinese and Japanese art, or European contemporary designs, the eclectic and well cared for art collection has something for everyone.
The best part about having your destination wedding at Villa Clara in Rome is that there is so much to explore in the city.
Many couples choose to combine their destination wedding with the honeymoon. After saying “I do” at Villa Clara, couples can get some time to themselves seeing the sights, shopping, experiencing Italian food, and jetting around Rome on a Vespa a la Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn.
For couples who are also interested in the villas of the past, Rome is just a bus ride away from the remains of Pompeii. Sadly, Villa of the Mysteries with its iconic red room, Villa of Papyri in Herculaneum, and the House of the Tragic Poet with its iconic “Cave Canem” guard dog mosaic barely allow tourists, and weddings are out of the question.
However, if you can’t have your dream Italian villa wedding in the villas of the far past, you can at least have it in a villa from the recent past. Then you and your beloved can tour the well-preserved villas in Pompeii and enjoy all the history that Italy has to offer.
Villa Igiea was originally built to be a private residence at the end of the 19th century. In the early 1900s, the Lorio family purchased the villa and turned it into a hotel for royalty, members of the Hollywood elite, and dignitaries. In 2019, Rocco Forte Hotels acquired Villa Igiea and brought it into a new era of opulence and accessibility. The historic villa was carefully restored to protect and preserve its heritage, while updating it to meet the standards of luxury of the 21st century.
This villa is the perfect marriage between the past and the present while maintaining luxury and quality. It is ideal for weddings because it can accommodate more than 100 guests. Each room is completely unique, all decorated and designed to pay homage to the history and beauty of Sicily. The bathrooms are even made with locally sourced marble.
If you and your beloved want to treat yourselves, Villa Igiea is the perfect place for your dream Italian villa wedding. Located at the base of Mount Pellegrino and the Gulf of Palermo, it marries natural beauty with human innovation. This venue is perfect for couples who want a wedding in nature, but who also want luxury, and don’t want to “rough it” on their special day.
The best word to describe Villa Astor is “paradise.” Overlooking the Bay of Naples, it has one of the greatest views in the world, as well as unparalleled splendor both inside and out. Of all the venues for an Italian villa wedding, Villa Astor is one of the most glamorous.
The villa dates all the way back to the 1st century A.D. when the grandson of Emperor Augustis made it his residence. Since then, Villa Astor has been a destination for the rich and noble. It was purchased by Lord William Waldorf Astor in 1905. He expanded the property to add a garden and a Pompeiian villa.
In the 70s, Villa Astor welcomed all manner of rich and famous guests, including Princess Margaret, Sofia Loren, Gregory Peck, Rudolf Nuriev, and Gianni Agnelli. Now, a villa that has been a beacon of luxury for the rich and famous can be the backdrop to your magical day.
To complete the experience, Villa Astor can accommodate your guests and wedding party. When you and your closest friends and family member stay the night at Villa Astor, you will notice the luxurious marble bathrooms, the art collection, and the furnishings sourced from Sotheby’s.
If you and your beloved want an Italian villa wedding, Villa Astor is the crème de la crème of authentic, luxurious, Italian villas. A place once home to the richest man in the world and all his famous guests, you can tie the knot in those same halls. There is no better location to hold the happiest day of your life.
Having a romantic, intimate, completely unforgettable wedding in an Italian villa is easy to daydream about and easy to create a Pinterest board for, but it’s hard to make it a reality. Many couples know what they want, but they don’t know where to start.
